What if a familiar song could help us discover something new about the world right in front of us?
The Worlds We Imagine is a playful, interactive cello experience where familiar songs become doorways into the living world around us.
Cellist and music educator Dr. Amanda Guilfoyle will perform favorites including A Whole New World, Winnie the Pooh, You've Got a Friend in Me, Circle of Life, How Far I'll Go, Colors of the Wind, and more—while inviting young listeners and their grown-ups to explore the real-life ideas hidden inside them.
Who might be living in the woods around us? How do animals find their way across enormous distances? What does it mean for living things to depend on one another? And what happens when we stop thinking of nature as the background and start paying attention to everything happening around us?
Through music, conversation, imagination, and moments of listening to the landscape itself, families will discover that the worlds we imagine in stories might have more in common with the wild world around us than we think.
What families can expect
This isn't a sit-perfectly-still kind of concert. The Worlds We Imagine is designed especially for young listeners, with plenty of opportunities to participate along the way.
During this approximately 30-minute program, children will be invited to answer questions, share observations, use their imaginations, listen to the landscape, and sing along when they know the music. Amanda will guide the experience through short conversations between songs, letting the children's own ideas and discoveries help shape where the adventure goes next.
Kids don't need any musical knowledge or nature expertise to participate—and they don't need to stay perfectly silent or perfectly still. Curiosity, questions, laughter, and enthusiastic responses are all part of the experience.
The program is especially designed for elementary-age children and their families, but younger siblings, older children, and curious listeners of all ages are more than welcome.
